PRESS RELEASE

This is an invitation to explore the new web site of the Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities (http://www.parl.gc.ca/disability).  The members want Canadians to become more aware of, and involved in, our work as parliamentarians and on this Sub-Committee.  We hope that this website will become a way for citizens to participate in our study of the Canada Pension Plan (Disability).

Why is this site important?  You can use this site to get information and resources about the Sub-Committee’s study.  For us, it is vital that people have information about what we are doing so that they can understand more about the CPP (Disability) program, the largest federal disability income program  -- how it works and what can be done to improve it.  We want Canadians to understand the challenges that exist with this program and to participate in our search for ways to deal with them better.

We want our visitors to know what’s new.  We also want to tell you about us, give you an understanding of our work, and our issues, as well as answer your questions.  We are putting a broad range of information on the site.  You can see the results of a committee meeting by looking at our evidence and minutes.  You can share what others are saying to us by checking the presentations that the Sub-Committee has heard.  You can check out what we said in our previous reports, and how the government responded to them.  Or you can apply for the Centennial Flame Research Award.

As we move through our study of the CPP (Disability) program, this website will continue to evolve with the collaboration of the House of Commons, the Library of Parliament, and the staff of the Members of Parliament who belong to the Sub-Committee.
