Tuesday, April 16, 2002

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Stéphane Bergeron, Bev Desjarlais, Walt Lastewka, James Rajotte, Andy Savoy and Brent St. Denis.

Acting Members present: Brian Fitzpatrick for Charlie Penson, John Harvard for Joseph Volpe, Bob Wood for Susan Whelan, Bernard Patry for Paddy Torsney and Alan Tonks for Serge Marcil.

Other Member present: Cheryl Gallant.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Department of Industry: Robert Dunlop, Director General, Small Business Policy Branch; Peter Webber, Manager, Small Business Financing Policy.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced consideration of the Business Development Bank of Canada further to Subsection 36(3) of the BDC Act.

Robert Dunlop made an opening statement and, with Peter Webber, answered questions.

At 11:05 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
