Tuesday, November 27, 2001

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 4:04 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Claude Drouin, Walt Lastewka, Dan McTeague, Charlie Penson, James Rajotte, Andy Savoy, Chuck Strahl, Paddy Torsney, Joseph Volpe and Susan Whelan.

Acting Members present: Mario Laframboise for Stéphane Bergeron.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw and Geoffrey P. Kieley, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Air Canada: John Baker, Senior Vice-President and General Counsel; Stephen Markey, Vice-President, Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs; Lawson Hunter, Legal Counsel.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Thursday, May 3, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-23, An Act to amend the Competition Act and the Competition Tribunal Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, October 4, 2001, Meeting No. 37).

John Baker made an opening statement and, with Lawson Hunter and Stephen Markey, answered questions.

At 5:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
