Thursday, November 22, 2001

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 9:30 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Claude Drouin, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, Walt Lastewka and Paddy Torsney.

Acting Member present: Pierre Paquette for Stéphane Bergeron.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw and Lalita Acharya, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Council of Science and Technology Advisors: Dr. Alan Winter, President and Chief Executive Officer, New Media Innovation Centre. From the Advisory Council on Science and Technology: Dr. Jacquelyn Thayer Scott, President and Vice-Chancellor, University College of Cape Breton.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the Three Federal Granting Agencies, Peer Review Funding, and the Canada Research Chairs Program (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, October 16, 2001, Meeting No. 39).

Alan Winter made an opening statement.

Jacquelyn Thayer Scott made an opening statement.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
