Wednesday, October 31, 2001

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:25 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Stéphane Bergeron, Claude Drouin, James Rajotte, Andy Savoy, Brent St. Denis, Chuck Strahl, Paddy Torsney, Joseph Volpe and Susan Whelan.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Lalita Acharya and James McQueen, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Tourism Industry Association of Canada: Gerry Macies, Director. From the Hotel Association of Canada: Anthony P. Pollard, President. From the Canadian Restaurant and Food Services Association: Joyce Reynolds, Senior Vice-President, Government Affairs. From the Association of Canadian Travel Agents: Randall M. Williams, President and Chief Executive Officer. From the Aluminium Association of Canada: Chris Van Houtte, President. From the Canadian Construction Association: Michael Atkinson, President; Jeff Morrison, Director of Communications.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of the Economic Impact on Canada of the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks.

Anthony P. Pollard, Gerry Macies, Joyce Reynolds and Randall M. Williams each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Chris Van Houtte, Michael Atkinson and Jeff Morrison each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
