Tuesday, April 24, 2001

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Mauril Bélanger, Pierre Brien, Walt Lastewka, Charlie Penson, Paddy Torsney and Susan Whelan.

Acting Member present: Cheryl Gallant for Preston Manning.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw and Daniel Brassard, Research Officers

Witnesses: From Statistics Canada: Dr. John R. Baldwin, Director, Micro Economic Studies and Analysis. From the Alliance of Manufacturers & Exporters Canada: Jayson Myers, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist, Co-Chair, Business Coalition on Cost Recovery.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of the Science and Technology Policies:

Roundtable: Science and Technology Contributions to Knowledge-based Economy.

Dr. John R. Baldwin and Jayson Myers each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
