Thursday, April 11, 2002

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Libby Davies, Raymonde Folco, Monique Guay, Judi Longfield, Gurbax Malhi, Joe McGuire, Anita Neville, Diane St-Jacques and Alan Tonks.

Acting Member(s) present: Elley Reed for Dale Johnston.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Research Officer.

Witness(es): From the House of Commons: William Corbett, Clerk; Rob Walsh, Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel; Luc Desroches, Director General, Corporate Services. From the McLaren Consulting Group Inc.: Phillip H. McLaren, President. From the Department of National Defence: LCol Mary L. Romanow, Acting Director Military Gender, Integration and Employment Equity; Elspeth Naismith, Director Military Gender Integration and Employment Equity 3-5/ Staff Officer for Persons with Disabilities. From the Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Jim Ewanovich, Assistant Commissionner, Chief Human Resources Officer. From the Canadian Police Association: Dale Kinnear, Director, Labour Services.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference dated December 3rd, 2001 and to section 44 of the Employment Equity Act, the Committee resumed consideration of the statutory review of the Act (See minutes of Proceedings of December11, 2001 – Meeting No.44)

William Corbett made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

Phlip McLarren made a statement and answered questions.

Mary Romanow, Jim Ewanovich and Dale Kinnear made statements and answered questions.

At 1:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
