Meeting No. 41

Thursday, November 29, 2001

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Paul Crête, Judi Longfield, Gurbax Malhi, Serge Marcil, Joe McGuire, Carol Skelton, Larry Spencer and Alan Tonks.

Acting Member(s) present: Larry McCormick for Raymonde Folco, John Godfrey for Diane St-Jacques and Marcel Gagnon for Monique Guay.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, researcher; Julie Mackenzie; Bill Young, researcher.

The Committee resumed consideration of its draft report on Guaranteed Income Supplement.

It was agreed, -- That the draft report (as amended) on “Guaranteed Income Supplement: the Duty to reach all” be adopted as the Sixth Report of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

It was agreed, -- That the Clerk be authorized to make such editorial and typographical changes as necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, -- That the Chair be authorised to table the Report in the House.

It was agreed, -- That the Committee print 250 copies of its Sixth Report in a tumble bilingual format.

It was agreed, -- That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee requests that the Government table a comprehensive response to the Report within one hundred and fifty (150) days.

It was agreed, -- That, pursuant to Standing Order 108 (1) (a), the Committee authorizes the printing of the dissenting or complementary opinion(s) as an appendix to this report immediately after the signature of the Chair; that thee opinion(s) be limited to not more than one page; (font = 12; line spacing = 1.5) and that these opinion(s) be delivered in both official languages to the Clerk of the Committee not later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 30th, 2001.

It was agreed, -- That a press release be prepared and sent immediately upon tabling of the Report in the House.

At 12:16 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
