The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Paul Crête, Libby Davies, Monique Guay,  Gurbax Malhi, Serge Marcil, Joe McGuire, Carol Skelton, Larry Spencer and Diane St-Jacques.

Acting Member(s) present: Norm Doyle for Greg Thompson and Jim Gouk for Dale Johnston.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Julie Mackenzie and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Appearing: From the Department of Human Resources Development Canada: Claudette Bradshaw, Minister of Labour.

Witness(es): From the Department of Human Resources Development Canada: Warren Edmondson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Labour; Gerry Blanchard, Director General, Operations, Labour.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), matters relating to the mandate, management and operation of the department - labour program

Hon. Claudette Bradshaw made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:06 p.m. o’clock, the sitting was suspended.

At 12:09 p.m. o’clock, the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to discuss its future business.

At 12:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
