MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 32

Tuesday, October 16, 2001

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Paul Crête, Libby Davies, Raymonde Folco, Monique Guay, Tony Ianno, Dale Johnston, Judi Longfield, Gurbax Malhi, Joe McGuire, Anita Neville, Joe Peschisolido, Carol Skelton, Larry Spencer, Diane St-Jacques and Alan Tonks.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Julie Mackenzie and Bill Young, research officers.

The Chair presented the Third Report of the Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure.

THIRD REPORT

Your Steering Committee met on Thursday, October 4, 2001 to plan its future business and has agreed to make the following recommendation:

- That the Minister of Human Resources and the Minister of Labour be invited to appear before the Committee to discuss the current crisis as soon as possible after October 15th.

And

- That the Committee study the Guaranteed Income Supplement Undersubscription; that on October 25th the Committee invite Edulinx and other student organizations on administrative issue relating to the Student Loans Delivery and that further to the seminar on the subject of “Measuring Quality of Life”, Dr. Carolyn Bennett and John Williams be invited to appear before the Committee.

On a motion of Alan Tonks, the Third Report of the Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure was adopted.

On a motion of Libby Davies, It was agreed, - That the Committee or one of its sub-committees consider studying the Canada Pension Plan particularly relating to people with disabilities.

At 11:36 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
