The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 10:02 a.m. this day, in Ballroom A of the Hotel Beauséjour in Moncton, New Brunswick, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, John Duncan, Wayne Easter, Gerald Keddy, Dominic LeBlanc, James Lunney, Peter Stoffer, Suzanne Tremblay, Tom Wappel.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Jim Jones, Regional Director General, Gulf Fisheries Management Region; Michael E. Chadwick, Regional Director of Science, Gulf Region. From the Maritime Fishermen's Union: Ron Cormier, President; Michael Belliveau, Executive Secretary. From the New Brunswick Seafood Processors: Joseph LaBelle, Executive Director. From the Atlantic Veterinary College: Rick Cawthorn, Director, Lobster Science Centre. From St. Francis Xavier University: Anthony Davis, Co-ordinator, Interdisciplinary Studies in Aquatic Resources. From l’Université de Moncton: Omer Chouinard, Director, Program in Environmental Studies. From the "Fédération régionale acadienne des pêcheurs professionels": Jean Saint-Cyr, Director General.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a meeting on the departmental structure in the Gulf Region.
Jim Jones made an opeming statement and, with Michael Chadwick, answered questions.
