Meeting No. 22

Thursday, May 17, 2001

 

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rick Casson, Bill Graham, Stan Keyes, Francine Lalonde, Diane Marleau, Pat O'Brien, Denis Paradis.

Acting Members present: Andy Savoy for John Harvard; Toni Valeri for George Baker; Reg Alcock for Jean Augustine; Mac Harb for Bernard Patry; Joe Comartin for Svend Robinson.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: David Johansen.

Witnesses: As Individual: Wendy Holm, Professional Agrologist, Senior Consultant and Agricultural Economist. From the Sierra Club of Canada: Christine Elwell, Senior Policy Analyst.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, May 8, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-6, An Act to amend the International Boundary Waters Treaty Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, May 10, 2001, Meeting No. 19).

Wendy Holm and Christine Elwell each made statements and answered questions.

On motion of Stan Keyes, it was agreed, unanimously, - That in the context of its study of Softwood Lumber, six (6) members the Sub-Committee on International Trade, trade Disputes and Investment and the necessary staff be authorised to travel to Washington, D.C. for a period of two (2) days during the period of June 1 to July 31, 2001 and that the Committee approve the travel budget in the amount of $20,086.60.

At 11:06 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
