Thursday, September 28, 2000
The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair.
Member(s) of the Committee present: Michel Bellehumeur, Chuck Cadman, Aileen Carroll, Paul DeVillers, Ivan Grose, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay, Lynn Myers, The Hon. Andy Scott, Judy Sgro, Pierrette Venne.
Acting Member present: Paul Forseth for Myron Thompson.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.
Pursuant to Standing Order 106 (1) and (2), election of a Chair and Vice-Chairs.
The Clerk presided over the election of a Chair.
Lynn Myers moved, -- That Andy Scott do take the Chair of this Committee as Chairman.
The question being put on the motion, it was agreed.
Andy Scott took the Chair.
On motion of Judy Sgro, it was agreed, -- That Ivan Grose be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
On motion of Paul Forseth, it was agreed, -- That Chuck Cadman be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
On motion of John McKay, it was agreed, -- That the Sub-Committee of 9 members composed of 5 Liberals and 1 member from each of the Opposition Parties be re-confirmed in its functions to deal with the November 30,1999 Order of Reference on organized crime and that Paul DeVillers take the Chair of the Sub-Committee.
At 9:17 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
