MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 52

Thursday, June 1st, 2000

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:15 a.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Yvan Bernier (by teleconference), Wayne Easter, Bill Gilmour, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Bill Matthews, Lawrence O'Brien, Carmen Provenzano, Paul Steckle.

Acting Members present: Steve Mahoney for Marcel Proulx; Joe Jordan for Lou Sekora.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

The Committee proceeded to discuss future business.

On motion of Lawrence O'Brien, it was agreed, - That the Committee seek an Order of Reference to travel from October 15th to the 25th, 2000 to continue their comprehensive study on Aquaculture, their statutory review of the Oceans Act and fisheries issues in Quebec, New Brunswick, Maine, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Labrador and P.E.I.

On motion of Lawrence O'Brien, it was agreed, - That the Committee travel to Chile during the month of November 2000 to continue their comprehensive study on Aquaculture.

On motion of Lawrence O'Brien, it was agreed, - That the Committee travel to Ontario during the month of October 2000 to continue their comprehensive study on Aquaculture.

On motion of Lawrence O'Brien, it was agreed, - That the Committee travel to Japan during the month of February 2001 to continue their comprehensive study on Aquaculture.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to table the Committee's decisions to travel to the House.

At 9:20 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
