Tuesday, November 23, 1999
The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 1:24 p.m. this day, at the Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites in Halifax, Nova Scota, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Yvan Bernier, Wayne Easter, Bill Matthews, Lawrence O'Brien, Charlie Power, Carmen Provenzano, Peter Stoffer.
Other Member present: Mark Muise.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Bay of Fundy Inshore Fishermen's Association: Wayne Spinney, Member. From the Lobster Fishing Area 34 Committee: Wayne Spinney, Member. From the Maritime Fishermen's Union: Jeff Browstein, President, Local 6. From the North Shore Fishermen's Association: Eben Elliott.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study on the implications of the September 17th, 1999 Supreme Court decision on R. v. Marshall on the Management of fisheries in the Atlantic Region.
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
At 3:00 o'clock p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 3:30 o'clock p.m., the sitting was resumed.
Eben Elliot answered questions.
At 3:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
