Wednesday, May 31, 2000

The Standing Committee on Finance met at 7:03 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Sophia Leung, Karen Redman and Paul Szabo.

Acting Members present: Antoine Dubé for Yvan Loubier, Louis Plamondon for Richard Marceau, Gordon Earle for the Hon. Lorne Nystrom, John Herron for Scott Brison.

Other Member present: Elsie Wayne.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean Soucy and Blayne Haggart, Researchers.

Witnesses: From the House of Commons: Antoine Dubé, M.P., Lévis. From the Canadian Shipowners Association: Donald N. Morrison, President. The Order of Reference dated Tuesday, May 30, 2000, being now read as follows:

ORDERED, -- That Bill C-213, An Act to promote shipbuilding, 1999 be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.

The Chair called Clause 1.

Antoine Dubé made a statement and answered questions.

Donald Morrison, Les Holloway, Richard Gauvin, Robert Chernecki and Peter Cairns made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 9:06 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
