MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 36

Thursday, October 5, 2000

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:02 a.m., this day, in Room 306, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair and Vice-Chairs, pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) and (2).

Members of the Committee present: Hélène Alarie, Robert Bertrand, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, Rick Casson, Odina Desrochers, John Harvard, Gar Knutson, Larry McCormick, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Member present: Claude Drouin for Joe McGuire.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) and (2), election of a Chair and Vice-Chairs.

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Chair.

Murray Calder moved, -- That, John Harvard do take the Chair of this Committee as Chairman.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

Accordingly, John Harvard was declared duly elected Chair of the Committee and invited to take the Chair.

The Committee proceeded to elect the Vice-Chairs.

Rose-Marie Ur moved, -- That, Murray Calder be elected Vice-Chair.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

Murray Calder was declared elected Vice-Chair, Government side.

Rick Casson moved, -- That, Howard Hilstrom be elected in absentia Vice-Chair.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

Howard Hilstrom was declared elected in absentia Vice-Chair, Opposition side.

At 11:08 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
