MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 95

Tuesday, March 16, 1999

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Gordon Earle, Jim Hart, René Laurin, Pat O'Brien, John O'Reilly, George Proud, John Richardson and Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Corinne McDonald, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Commercial Corporation: Glenn Nichols, Executive Director. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Richard Lepage.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed a study on Contracting and Procurement.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 4:45 o'clock p.m., the Committee proceeded to future business.

It was agreed, - That the request by René Laurin be suspended pending the results of a meeting to be held with interested parties on March 26, 1999.

On motion of Robert Bertrand, seconded by Jim Hart, it was agreed, - That the Committee seek authority to travel to England and Washington in relation to its study on Contracting and Procurement.

On motion of Bob Wood, seconded by Jim Hart, it was agreed, That the Committee seek authority to travel to Charlottetown in relation to its study on Veterans Issues.

On motion of Bob Wood, it was agreed, - That the Chair seek a budget in the amount of $10,000.00 for witnesses expenses and miscellaneous items.

At 5:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
