MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 94

Thursday, March 11, 1999

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Gordon Earle, Art Hanger, Pat O'Brien, John O'Reilly, David Price, George Proud, John Richardson and Bob Wood.

Acting Members present: Antoine Dubé for René Laurin, John Godfrey for David Pratt and Janko Peric for Judy Longfield.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Corinne McDonald, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Industry Canada: Ron Kane, Director, Space, Electronics and Defence; John M. Banigan, Assistant Deputy Minister.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed a study on Contracting and Procurement.

On motion of Bob Wood, it was agreed, - That notwithstanding a motion passed on Thursday, October 9, 1997, the Committee agree to reimburse five (5) witnesses from the Canadian Merchant Navy Veterans Association for travel to the Committee.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
