MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 89

Thursday, February 11, 1999

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Art Hanger, René Laurin, Pat O'Brien, John O'Reilly, David Price, John Richardson and Bob Wood.

Associate Member present: Janko Peric.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Corinne McDonald, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: L. Denis Desautels, Auditor General of Canada; David Rattray, Assistant Auditor General; Peter Kasurak, Principal.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee proceeded to a study on Contracting and Procurement Policy: Chapter 4 of the Auditor General's Report.

L. Denis Desautels made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

On motion of Robert Bertrand, it was agreed, - That the Clerk of the Committee be authorized to distribute documents received from the public only once they have been translated in both official languages.

Moved by René Laurin, - That the National Defence Department tables before the National Defence and Veterans Affairs Committee all the flight logs related to its Challenger and Air Bus fleet from February 1st to February 9th, 1999.

After debate, it was agreed that the motion be tabled until the next meeting of the Committee.

At 10:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
