MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 82

Thursday, November 19, 1998

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hec Clouthier, Gordon Earle, Peter Goldring, Jim Hart, René Laurin, Judi Longfield, Pat O'Brien, George Proud, John Richardson, Bob Wood.

Acting Members present: Ivan Grose for Robert Bertrand and Elsie Wayne for David Price.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Grant Purves, Research Officers.

Witness: From the Armed Forces Pensioners'/Annuitants Association of Canada: E.W. Halayko, Chairman; Ian McBride, Legal Counsel.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on Veterans Issues

Ian McBride and E.W. Halayko made opening statements and answered questions.

On motion of George Proud, it was agreed, - That the Committee authorise the Chair to seek an operating budget of $5,200.00 and a travel budget of $25,718.00 for its travel to Germany from January 24 to 31, 1998.

At 11:10 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
