WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29, 1998

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:30 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Robert Bertrand, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Maurice Godin, Peter Goldring, Judi Longfield, David Pratt, David Price, George Proud and John Richardson

Associate Member present: Elsie Wayne

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Appearing: From the Department of Veterans Affairs: The Honourable Fred Mifflin, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Secretary of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency); David Nicholson, Deputy Minister.

The Committee proceeded to its Order of reference, dated Thursday, February 26, 1998, relating to the Main Estimates for the year ending March 31, 1999 - Votes 1, 5 and 10 under Veterans Affairs.

The Minister made an opening statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 5:30 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
