MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
(Meeting No. 16)

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1997

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:35 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 371, West Block, the Chair, Robert Bertrand, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Art Hanger, Judi Longfield, Pat O’Brien, David Pratt, George Proud, John Richardson, Pierrette Venne and Bob Wood.

Acting Members present: Denis Coderre for John O’Reilly.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Lieutenant General A. DeQuetteville, Chief of Air Staff; and Gilles Guilbault, Chief Warrant Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a Review of the Social and Economic Challenges Facing Members of the Canadian Forces.

On motion of George Proud, it was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the budget of $211,650.00 for its travels inside Canada in relation to its study on Social and Economic Challenges Facing Members of the Canadian Forces.

Lieutenant General A. DeQuetteville made an opening statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 5:16 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
