The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met jointly with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade at 3:20 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Gordon Earle, Art Hanger, Ghislain Lebel, David Price, and George Proud.
Members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade present: Bill Graham, Sheila Finestone, Julian Reed, Bob Mills, Daniel Turp, and André Bachand.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Corinne McDonald and James Lee, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff; BGen J.O.M. (Michel) Maisonneuve, Director General, Land Force Readiness. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Jim Wright, Director General for Central East and South Europe. From the Canadian International Development Agency: Charles Bassett, Vice-President, Central and Eastern Europe Branch.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of the situation in Kosovo. (See Minutes of Proceedings of March 31, 1999, Meeting No. 99.)
Jim Wright, Lt-Gen Raymond Henault, BGen Michel Maisonneuve and Charles Bassett each made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 4:38 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
