Meeting No. 120

Thursday, May 27, 1999

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met jointly with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade at 3:16 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gordon Earle, Pat O'Brien and David Pratt.

Member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade present: André Bachand.

Acting Member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade present: Réal Ménard for Daniel Turp.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Corinne McDonald and James Lee, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: BGen D.M. Jurkowski, Chief of Staff J3 and Director General, Military Plans and Operations. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Jim Wright, Director General for Central East and South Europe. From Citizenship and Immigration Canada: Jeff LeBane, Director General, International Relations. From the Canadian International Development Agency: Hélène Corneau, Program Manager, Central and Eastern Europe Programme.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of the situation in Kosovo. (See Minutes of Proceedings of March 31, 1999, Meeting No. 99.)

Jim Wright, BGen D.M. Jurkowski, Jeff LeBane and Hélène Corneau each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 4:12 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
