Meeting No. 117

Tuesday, May 25, 1999

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met jointly with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade at 3:22 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, Hec Clouthier presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Gordon Earle, Peter Goldring and Ghislain Lebel.

Members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade present: John Cannis, Sheila Finestone, Julian Reed and André Bachand.

Associate Members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade present: Murray Calder.

Acting Members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade present: Paul Crête for Daniel Turp.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Corinne McDonald and James Lee, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff, OP ABACUS. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Jim Wright, Director General for Central East and South Europe. From the Canadian International Development Agency: Hunter McGill, Director General, International Humanitarian Assistance. From Citizenship and Immigration Canada: Jeff LeBane, Director General, International Relations.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of the situation in Kosovo. (See Minutes of Proceedings of March 31, 1999, Meeting No. 99.)

Jim Wright, Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault, Jeff LeBane and Hunter McGill each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 4:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
