MEETING No. 70

Wednesday, May 13, 1998

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:44 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Shaughnessy Cohen, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Shaughnessy Cohen, Paul DeVillers, Derek Lee, Peter G. MacKay, John Maloney, Jack Ramsay and Andrew Telegdi.

Acting Member present: Claude Bachand for Michel Bellehumeur.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst, and Nancy Holmes, Research Officer.

 

Witness: David W. Scott, c.r., Former Chairman of the 1995 Commission on Judges’ Salaries and Benefits.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, April 21, 1998, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-37, An Act to amend the Judges Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Monday, May 11, 1998, Meeting No. 67).

The witness answered questions.

At 5:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
