Wednesday, May 26, 1999

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, John Maloney, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Aileen Carroll, Derek Lee, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, Richard Marceau, John McKay and Jacques Saada.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(6) and the Order of Reference dated Monday, March 1st, 1999, the Committee resumed consideration of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2000. (See Minutes of Proccedings dated Wednesday, April 28, 1999, Meeting No. 137)

Ward P.D. Elcock from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service answered questions.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced consideration of Proposals for a Miscellaneous Statute Law Amendment Act, 1998.

Don Macpherson and Vincent Kooiman from the Department of Justice made opening statements, and along with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
