The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 8:40 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, John Maloney, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Reg Alcock, Eleni Bakopanos, Michel Bellehumeur, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay, John Reynolds and Jacques Saada.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference dated Thursday, October 22, 1998, the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights resumed consideration of Bill C-251, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (cumulative sentences). (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, December 1st, 1998, Meeting No. 106)

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:42 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
