MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 108

Tuesday, February 2, 1999

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) and 106(2).

Member(s) of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Eleni Bakopanos, Chuck Cadman, Aileen Carroll, Paul DeVillers, Paul DeVillers, Ivan Grose, Derek Lee, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, John Maloney, Peter Mancini, Richard Marceau, John Reynolds.

Acting Member(s) present: Carolyn Bennett for Reg Alcock, David Pratt for John McKay, Bryon Wilfert for Jacques Saada.

Other Member present: Dick Harris.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Marilyn Pilon, Researcher and Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

The Clerk presided over the election of a Chair.

Chuck Cadman moved, seconded by John Reynolds -- That John Maloney do take the Chair of the Committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

John Maloney took the Chair.

Aileen Carroll moved, seconded by Peter MacKay, -- That Paul DeVillers be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.

David Pratt moved, -- That Paul DeVillers take the Chair of the Sub-Committee on the Corrections and Conditional Release Act.

It was agreed, -- That the Chair seek authorisation from the House for the Sub-Committee on Corrections and Conditional Release Act to travel to Abbottsford, Vancouver and Edmonton during the week of March 1, 1999 and to Halifax and Moncton during the week of March 15, 1999.

At 3:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
