MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

MONDAY, OCTOBER 6, 1997

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:42 o’clock p.m. this day, Room 253-D, Centre Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair and a Vice-Chair, pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) et 106(2).

Members of the Committee present: Michel Bellehumeur, Garry Breitkreuz, Shaughnessy Cohen, Paul DeVillers, Paul E. Forseth, Derek Lee, Peter G. MacKay, Gurbax Malhi, John Maloney and Jack Ramsay.

Acting Members present: Susan Whelan for Eleni Bakopanos, Bob Speller for Andrew Telegdi, Joe Jordan for Nick Discepola, Carolyn Bennett for Sheila Finestone and Louise Hardy for Peter Mancini.

Associate Members present: Chuck Cadman and Mark Muise.

The Clerks presided over the election of a Chair.

Jack Ramsay moved,--That Shaughnessy Cohen do take the Chair of this Committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

Shaughnessy Cohen took the Chair.

On motion of Paul DeVillers, it was agreed,--That John Maloney be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.

On motion of Bob Speller, it was agreed,--That Paul E. Forseth be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.


At 15:46 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
