Thursday, March 11, 1999
The Standing Committee on Industry met at 9:01 a.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Rahim Jaffer, Marlene Jennings, Jim Jones, Stan Keyes, Francine Lalonde, Walt Lastewka, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Antony Jackson and John Craig, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation: Edith Cody-Rice, Senior Legal Counsel. From the Canadian Association of Broadcasters: Cynthia A. Rathwell, Vice-President, Legal Affairs; Sylvie Courtemanche, Senior Vice President, Specialty and Regulatory Affairs.
Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, November 3, 1998, consideration of Bill C-54, An Act to support and promote electronic commerce by protecting personal information that is collected, used or disclosed in certain circumstances, by providing for the use of electronic means to communicate or record information or transactions and by amending the Canada Evidence Act, the Statutory Instruments Act and the Statute Revision Act.
Edith Cody-Rice, Cynthia Rathwell and Sylvie Courtemanche each made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 10:22 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
