Wednesday, March 3, 1999
The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Antoine Dubé, Rahim Jaffer, Marlene Jennings, Jim Jones, Stan Keyes, Walt Lastewka, Ian Murray, Janko Peric, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.
In attendance: From Committees and Legislative Services: Jacques Lahaie, Legislative Clerk. From the Library of Parliament: Antony Jackson and Daniel Brassard, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Federally Regulated Employers in Transportation and Communications: Donald Brazier, Director, Labour Relations; David P. Olsen, Assistant General Counsel; Leslie-Anne Lewis, Manager, Employment Legislation.
Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, November 3, 1998, consideration of Bill C-54, An Act to support and promote electronic commerce by protecting personal information that is collected, used or disclosed in certain circumstances, by providing for the use of electronic means to communicate or record information or transactions and by amending the Canada Evidence Act, the Statutory Instruments Act and the Statute Revision Act.
Don Brazier made an opening statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.
At 4:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
