The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Eugène Bellemare, Antoine Dubé, Marlene Jennings, Jim Jones, Stan Keyes, Francine Lalonde, Walt Lastewka, Jim Pankiw, Janko Peric and Susan Whelan.
Acting Member present: Paul Bonwick for Ian Murray.
Associate Member present: Nelson Riis.
In attendance: From Committees and Legislative Services: Richard Dupuis, Legislative Clerk. From the Library of Parliament Nathalie Pothier and Antony Jackson, Research Officers.

Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, October 6, 1998, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-53, An Act to increase the availability of financing for the establishment, expansion, modernization and improvement of small businesses. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, October 7, 1998, Meeting No. 60)
On Clause 1
Richard Flageole, from the Office of the Auditor General and Dr. Alan Riding, from Equinox Management Consultants Ltd., each made a statement and with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 4:34 o'clock p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 4:35 o'clock p.m., the sitting resumed.
Flo Frank and Glenn Stansfield, from The Digby Network, and Michael Ferrabee from the Canadian Restaurant and Food Services Association each made a statement and answered questions.
At 5:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
