Mr. Walt Lastewka (St. Catharines, Lib.): Clerk, I do so move that Susan Whelan do take the chair of this Standing Committee on Industry.

Mr. Stan Keyes (Hamilton West, Lib.): On division.

Some hon. members: Oh, oh.

    (Motion agreed to)

The Clerk: Please take the chair.

The Chair (Ms. Susan Whelan (Essex, Lib.)): Democracy in action.

I want to thank everyone for their support, including Stan Keyes.

Mr. Stan Keyes: Tough campaign.

The Chair: The second duty today is our election of vice-chairs. What we'll be doing is electing two vice-chairs, one of whom shall be a government member and one of whom shall be opposition.

On the position of first vice-chair, Mr. Murray.

Mr. Ian Murray (Lanark—Carleton, Lib.): Madam Chair, I'd like to move the election of Eugène Bellemare for vice-chair.

    (Motion agreed to)

The Chair: Mr. Bellemare is first vice-chair.

Mr. Eugène Bellemare (Carleton—Gloucester, Lib.): Merçi beaucoup.

The Chair: Now for the position of second vice-chair.

Mr. Jim Pankiw (Saskatoon—Humboldt, Ref.): I'd like to move Mr. Jaffer.

The Chair: Thank you, Mr. Pankiw.

    (Motion agreed to)

The Chair: Mr. Jaffer, congratulations. You're our second vice-chair.

We will be adjourning until our meeting this afternoon, which is on the year 2000 issues with, I think, three witnesses.

Just to remind everyone, we have cancelled the meeting that was tentatively scheduled for Thursday morning in order to allow for those who were invited to the OECD conference. I believe a representative from each party has been invited to attend on e-commerce, electronic commerce, to hear the discussions. I understand that most of the representatives will be able to attend part of the sessions.

So to make it easier, we will not be meeting Thursday morning, but we will be meeting this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon.

The meeting is adjourned until then, unless there are any other questions.

Adjourned.
