Meeting No. 57

Thursday, October 1st, 1998

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 9:14 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Antoine Dubé, Tony Ianno, Marlene Jennings, Jim Jones, Francine Lalonde, Walt Lastewka, Eric Lowther, Ian Murray, Jim Pankiw, Janko Peric, Alex Shepherd, Susan Whelan.

Acting Members present: John Solomon for Chris Axworthy and Rob Anders for Werner Schmidt.

Associate Member present: Rahim Jaffer.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nathalie Pothier and Antony Jackson, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Bankers' Association: Kelly Shaughnessy, Senior Vice-President; Alan Young, Vice-President. From Thompson Lightstone and Company Limited: Ian M. Lightstone, Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed a study on small business access to capital and bank loans. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, October 30, 1997, Meeting No. 6)

Kelly Shaughnessy and Ian Lightstone each made a statement and, with the other witness from the Canadian Bankers' Association, answered questions.

At 11:05 o'clock a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:13 o'clock a.m., the sitting resumed.

The witnesses resumed answering questions.

Alan Young made a statement and with the other witness from the Canadian Bankers' Association, answered questions.

At 12:26 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
