Wednesday, September 23, 1998
The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Tony Ianno, Marlene Jennings, Jim Jones, Ian Murray, Jim Pankiw, Janko Peric, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.
Acting Members present: Yves Rocheleau for Antoine Dubé and John Solomon for Chris Axworthy.
Other Members present:Rahim Jaffer.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nathalie Pothier and Antony Jackson, Research Officers.
Witnesses:From the Competition Bureau: Raymond Pierce, Assistant Deputy Director, Mergers Branch; Gwillym Allen, Assistant Deputy Director, Economic Policy and Enforcement; Denis Corriveau, Commerce Officer.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to consideration of the guidelines for mergers.
Raymond Pierce made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
