MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

(Meeting No. 52)

Thursday, June 11th, 1998

The Standing Committee on Industry met in a televised session at 9: 05 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 253-D of the Centre Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Tony Ianno, Francine Lalonde, Walt Lastewka, Janko Peric and Susan Whelan.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Daniel Brassard, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the National Research Council Canada: Dr. Arthur J. Carty, President. From the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada: Dr. Marc Renaud, President. From the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada: Dr. Thomas A. Brzustowski, President; Ian Calvert, Director, Information Management Systems.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a study on Information Technology: Preparedness for Year 2000 and also pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), proceeded to consideration of the subject matter on the Management and Operation of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, National Research Council and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Dr. Arthur J. Carty from National Research Council Canada made a statement and answered questions.

Dr. Marc Renaud from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada made a statement and answered questions.

Dr. Thomas A. Brzustowski from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 10:56 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
