MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

(Meeting No. 49)

Tuesday, June 2nd, 1998

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:32 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 308 of the West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Bonnie Brown, Antoine Dubé, Marlene Jennings, Jim Jones, Francine Lalonde, Walt Lastewka, Jim Pankiw, Janko Peric, Werner Schmidt, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.

Acting Member present: Charles Hubbard for Tony Ianno.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: : Daniel Brassard and Antony Jackson, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Standards Council of Canada: Linda Lusby, Chair; Jack Perrow, Director of Standardization; Larry Moore, Director External Relations; Rick Parsons, Treasurer and Director of Administration. From the Copyright Board of Canada: Michel Hétu, Vice-Chairman and Chef Executive Officer; Claude Majeau, Secretary to the Board. From the Competition Tribunal: Annaline Lubbe, Registrar; Larry Séguin, Deputy Registrar; Carole Ménard, Director, Management Service.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Information Technology: Preparedness for Year 2000 and also Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to consideration of the subject matter on the Management and Operation of Standards Council of Canada, the Copyright Board of Canada and the Competition Tribunal

Linda Lusby, Michel Hétu, Annaline Lubbe and Larry Séguin each made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 4:53 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
