Tuesday, March 31, 1998
The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:30 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 253-D, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Chris Axworthy, Eugène Bellemare, Marlene Jennings, Jim Jones, Francine Lalonde, Walt Lastewka, Eric Lowther, Ian Murray, Jim Pankiw, Janko Peric, Werner Schmidt, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: : Daniel Brassard, Antony Jackson and Nathalie Pothier, Research Officers.
Appearing: The Hon. John Manley, Minister of Industry
Witness: From the Department of Industry: Konrad von Finckenstein, Director Investigation and Research, Competition Bureau.
The Committee proceeded to discuss future business.
On motion of Marlene Jennings it was agreed - That the Committee met from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday April 21st, 1998 on the topic of the year 2000 computer problem.
On motion of Marlene Jennings, it was agreed - That the committee have up to 3 working meals during its all-day sitting on Tuesday, April 21.
On motion of Ian Murray, it was agreed - That the Committee retain the services of DELTA MADIA INC., for the period from April 6, 1998 to May 29, 1998, for an amount not to exceed $5 200.00.
At 3:55 o'clock p.m. the meeting was suspended.
At 4:16 o'clock p.m. the meeting resumed.
Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, March 17, 1998, consideration of Bill C-20, An Act to amend the Competition Act and to make consequential and related amendments to other Acts.
The Hon John Manley made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.
At 5:19 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
