Monday, March 9, 1998.

 

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:37 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Bonnie Brown, Jim Jones, Walt Lastewka, Eric Lowther, Ian Murray, Janko Peric, Werner Schmidt, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.

Acting Members present: Pierre de Savoye for Francine Lalonde.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: : Daniel Brassard and Antony Jackson, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From Health Canada: Fruji Bull, Director General, Information Services Directorate; Dann Michols, Director General, Therapeutic Products Programme. From the Canadian Pharmacists Association: Jeff Poston, Director, Research and Practice Development; Elliot A. Loh, Senior Research Associate. From the Canadian Healthcare Association: Sharon Baker, Vice-President, Corporate Services; Kathryn Tregunna, Director, Policy Development.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), a study on Information Technology: Preparedness for Year 2000.

Fruji Bull, from Health Canada, Jeff Poston, from the Canadian Pharmacists Association, Katheryn Tregunna and Sharon Baker, from the Canadian Healthcare Association, each made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 4:53 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
