Thursday, February 19, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Industry met in televised session at 9:10 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Antoine Dubé, Tony Ianno, Walt Lastewka, Eric Lowther, Ian Murray, Janko Peric, Werner Schmidt, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.

 

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: : Antony Jackson and Nathalie Pothier, Research Officers.

 

Witnesses: From the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions: John R. Thompson, Deputy Superintendent, Policy Sector; Richard Webb, Senior Policy Analyst, Policy Initiatives and Communications Division, Policy Sector. From the Canadian Bankers Association: Gerry Beasley, Senior Executive Vice-President, CIBC; Frank Riddell, Manager, Project Year 2000, Toronto Dominion Bank; Kelly Shaughnessy, Senior Vice-President, Small Business Banking, CIBC; Mark Weseluck, Vice-President, Banking Operations, Canadian Bankers Association.

 

 

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Information Technology: Preparedness for Year 2000.

 

John R. Thompson, from the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, Mark Weseluck, from the Canadian Bankers Association, Frank Riddell, from the Toronto Dominion Bank, Gerry Beasley, from CIBC and Kelly Shaughnessy, from CIBC, each made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:12 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
