MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

(Meeting No. 21)

Tuesday, February 17, 1998.

The Standing Committee on Industry met in a televised session at 3:29 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Bonnie Brown, Antoine Dubé, Tony Ianno, Jim Jones, Walt Lastewka, Eric Lowther, Werner Schmidt, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.

Acting Members present: Gurbax Malhi for Janko Peric.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: : Daniel Brassard and Antony Jackson, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From Citizenship and Immigration Canada: Joan Atkinson, Director, Selection Branch. From the Software Human Resources Council: Paul Swinwood, President. From Human Resources Development Canada: Martha Nixon, Associate Executive Head, Human Resources Investment Branch.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Information Technology: Preparedness for Year 2000.

Joan Atkinson, Paul Swinwood and Martha Nixon each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:20 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
