(Meeting No. 12)

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 1997

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 9:10 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 362, East Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Antoine Dubé, Tony Ianno, Marlene Jennings, Francine Lalonde, Walt Lastewka, Eric Lowther, Jim Pankiw, Charlie Power, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.

Other Member present: Dan McTeague.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament
: Antony Jackson, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Department of Industry: Michael Binder, Assistant Deputy Minister, Spectrum, Information Technologies and Telecommunications (SITT); Allan MacGillivray, Director, Industry Framework, Telecommunications Policy Branch; and
Larry Shaw, Deputy Director General, Telecommunications Policy Branch.

Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, November 25, 1997, consideration of Bill C-17, An Act to amend the Telecommunications Act and the Teleglobe Canada Reorganization and Divestiture Act.

Michael Binder made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 9:46 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
