Meeting No. 74

Tuesday, October 27, 1998

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in camera at 9:13 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, André Bachand, Colleen Beaumier, John Cannis, Maud Debien, Bill Graham, Bob Mills, Bernard Patry, Julian Reed, Svend Robinson, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Lee; Gerald Schmitz.

Witnesses: From Cameroon: The Rt Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, Speaker of the National Assembly; The Hon. Namata Ewanga, M.P., Vice-President of the National Assembly, Head of the Canada-Cameroon Friendship Group; The Hon. Silikam Isabelle, M.P., Secretary of the National Assembly Office; The Hon. Jean Tchomelou, M.P; The Hon. Hamadjam Sah Passoute, M.P; The Hon. Andze Andze Emile, M.P; The Hon. Assam Mvondo, M.P; The Hon. Ncharo Mama, M.P; Michel Meva'a m'Eboutou, Secretary General of the National Assembly; Bouba Simala, Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the National Assembly; Ahmadou Ndottiwa, Chief of ceremonies and Missions, Head of Protocol; From the From the High Commission of Cameroon: H.E. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Canada's policy on nuclear non-proliferation, arms control and disarmament.

The Committee proceeded to consider its draft report.

It was agreed, --That the Chair be authorized to engage the services of an editor to edit the French text of the final version of the Committee's report.

At 11:06 o'clock a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:12 o'clock a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to meet with a delegation from Cameroon.

The Honourable Cavaye Yeguie Djibril made an aopening statement and, with other members of the delegation, answered questions.

At 11:42 o'clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
