WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 1997

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met jointly with the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans’ Affairs at 3:20 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chairs, Bill Graham and Robert Bertrand, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Scott Brison, John Cannis, Bill Graham, Ted McWhinney, Julian Reed, Svend Robinson, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.

Associate Member present: Raymonde Folco

Members of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans’ Affairs present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Art Hanger, Judi Longfield, Pat O’Brien, John O’Reilly, George Proud, John Richardson, David Price and Bob Wood.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 108(1) (a) and 108(2), the Committee convened a joint meeting with the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans’ Affairs and the Secretary General and Ambassadors of the North Atlantic Council.

His Excellency Javier Solana made a statement and, with Ambassadors Mevik, Oymen, Von Richthofen, Jannuzzi,and Wright as well as Bruce Cleghorn, answered questions.

At 4:17 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
