MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 58

TUESDAY, JUNE 2nd, 1998

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in a televised session at 11:30 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 253-D of the Centre Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, Maud Debien, Raymonde Folco, Bill Graham, Ted McWhinney, Bob Mills, Denis Paradis, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.

Acting Members present: Monique Guay for Benoît Sauvageau.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Research Officer.

Appearing: The Hon. Don Boudria, M.P., Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Head of the Canadian Delegation to Algeria.

Witnesses: Members of Canadian Parliamentary Delegation to Algeria: The Hon. Gérald J. Comeau, Senator; The Hon. Pierre De Bané, Senator; Hélène Alarie, M.P.; Raymonde Folco, M.P.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of the situation in Algeria.

The Honourable Don Boudria, M.P. and Senator De Bané each made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 12:37 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
