Meeting No. 55

WEDNESDAY, MAY 27 , 1998

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:25 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 253-D of the Centre Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Maud Debien, Bill Graham, Ted McWhinney, Bob Mills, Denis Paradis, Benoît Sauvageau.

Acting Members present: André Harvey for André Bachand.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.

Witnesses: Jacques Delors, Chairman of the UNESCO's International Committee on Education for the 21st Century and Former Chairman of the European Commission; Jean-Pierre Juneau, Canadian Ambassador to the European Union.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to discuss Canada-European Union relations.

Jean-Pierre Juneau and Jacques Delors each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 4:22 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
