Meeting No. 39

TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 1998

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:15 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 705 of the La Promenade Building, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, Colleen Beaumier, John Cannis, Bill Graham, Raymonde Folco, Bob Mills, Julian Reed, Daniel Turp.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From Canadian Voice of Women for Peace: Anne Adelson and Nêst Prichard, Spokespersons. From the NGO Committee on Disarmament: William Epstein, Board Member (and Representative of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs at the United Nations). From the Canadian Uranium Alliance: Phillip Penna, Spokesperson. From the Inter-Church Uranium Committee: Neil Sinclair, Board Member. From End the Arms Race: Peter Coombes, President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of Canada’s policy on nuclear non-proliferation, arms control and disarmament.

The witnesses each made an opening statement and answered questions.

On motion of Jean Augustine, it was agreed, --That the Committee authorize the reprint of 750 copies of the Third Report of the Committee relating to the Multilateral Agreement on Investment.

At 12:08 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
