THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 10:25 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 209 of the West Block, the Vice-Chair, Bob Mills, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, André Bachand, Maud Debien, Raymonde Folco, Gurmant Grewal, Julian Reed, Bob Speller.

 

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers.

 

Witnesses: From the Canadian Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility: Gordon Edwards. From Campaign for Nuclear Phaseout: Kristen Ostling, National Coordinator. From the Nuclear Awareness Project: Irene Kock, Spokesperson. As an Individual: Franklyn Griffiths, Ignatieff Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Toronto.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of Canada’s policy on nuclear non-proliferation, arms control and disarmament.

 

The witnesses each made an opening statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:35 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
